Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believe first and foremost that Jesus Christ is our savior and redeemer. That’s why we prefer to have our church called by its full name, instead of the previous nickname “Mormon.”
Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believe that through Jesus Christ all humankind may enjoy eternal life with their families in God’s kingdom (see John 3:16). We also believe that we lived with God as spirits before we were born (see Romans 8:16) and that according to His plan of happiness we came to earth to receive physical bodies in order to learn and grow. We also believe that, through the work done in temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, family relationships can last forever. In order to receive these blessings, we must seek to know and follow God’s will, as revealed by holy scriptures and living prophets, and live righteously. And we must repent when we make mistakes.
The Church’s mission is to help us meet the challenges of this life and to help us follow Jesus Christ, so that we will be worthy of the temporal and spiritual blessings God wants for us.
The Church was established April 6, 1830, by Joseph Smith, the first president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We believe he was called by God to be a prophet in this modern era, just as Moses and Abraham were called in biblical times. Joseph Smith saw God the Father and Jesus Christ in a vision after praying to know which church to join. They called on him to restore the church Christ had organized when He was on the earth, with the proper organization and priesthood authority that had been lost shortly after the Savior’s death.
From the original six members when the Church was first formed in 1830, the restored Church of Jesus Christ has now grown to a membership of over 15 million people, living on six continents. After Joseph Smith’s death, an unbroken succession of prophets have led the Church; these prophets and other Church leaders who serve with them are always striving to bring individuals to a better understanding and greater love for the gospel of Jesus Christ.
This site is meant to introduce our Church to the world. Through these pages we hope to give accurate information, answer your questions, and provide ways to learn more. We hope this site will be a good beginning to your investigation of our faith. We also invite you to contact the missionaries and to visit our Church services.
