Healing from Grief
Healing through Community
Grief, along with the deep sorrow that accompanies it, is a distressing part of the human experience. Finding connection and comfort through a loving community is one way we can navigate these difficult waters.
In the Book of Mormon, Christ tells us to “bear one another’s burdens, that they may be light; yea, and… mourn with those that mourn; yea, and comfort those that stand in need of comfort.” (Mosiah 18:8—9). We can mourn with our loved ones by comforting them, being there, and listening.
Finding Hope through Jesus
Jesus Christ “a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief” (Isaiah 53:3), knows exactly what you’re going through. He suffered every pain so specifically that He knows your individual grief, and He can help you through it.
In the Bible, God promises “beauty for ashes” (Isaiah 61:3). For the Bruno family, beauty came in the form of flowers, bark chips, and sod as Church members helped them through their daughter’s fight with cancer.
Forgiveness: My Burden Was Made Light
Forgiveness and the power of Jesus Christ enable a man to survive losing his wife and several children in a car accident—and allow the offending driver to begin rebuilding his or her own life.
This is Church: Troy's Story
After a devastating loss, Troy struggled to keep going. Then his local church community stepped in with a small but important act of love and inclusion.
Principles of Peace—Faith
Jesus walked with Peter through waves and with Kristin through cancer.
