Feeling Alone?

Because mortality is a unique experience for everyone, we’ve probably all experienced those moments of feeling completely alone during difficult times. The good news, however, is that no matter how unique our struggle, we are never completely alone. There is One who fully understands how we feel because He has felt it, too.

Watch as Elder Quentin L. Cook testifies that our Savior Jesus Christ really does understand how we feel.

Still not sure you believe it? These scriptures teach that the Savior truly understands how we feel. He experienced mortality personally so He would know how to lift us during our trials.

Hebrews 4:15 “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.”

Alma 7:11–13 “And he shall go forth, suffering pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind; and this that the word might be fulfilled which saith he will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his people.

“And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities.

“Now the Spirit knoweth all things; nevertheless the Son of God suffereth according to the flesh that he might take upon him the sins of his people, that he might blot out their transgressions according to the power of his deliverance; and now behold, this is the testimony which is in me.”

Doctrine and Covenants 88:6–7 “He that ascended up on high, as also he descended below all things, in that he comprehended all things, that he might be in all and through all things, the light of truth; which truth shineth.”

Doctrine and Covenants 19:16 “For behold, I, God, have suffered these things for all, that they might not suffer if they would repent.”

What Can We Do?

If we want to feel the peace that comes from knowing the Savior understands how we feel, there are some things we can do. We can have faith in Him, repent of our sins, and trust His wisdom. We can study His word, keep His commandments, and follow His example. We can turn to Him for healing when we can’t continue on our own.

The Savior gets what we’re going through, and He wants us to be happy. Everything He offers us is designed to help us through our personal trials. When we choose Him, we will have the certain knowledge that no matter what we face, we are never really alone.
