“In family relationships love is really spelled t-i-m-e, time.” -Dieter F. Uchtdorf

It’s so true. As a wife and mother of 3, one of the best ways I can show my love to my family is giving them my time. It’s hard sometimes, being so busy with everyday responsibilities, but I find that when I prioritize my family time it brings me so much happiness. Spending time with each other is one of my favorite things; laughing, sharing, teaching, loving and playing. Family vacations, family nights & just interacting with each other strengthens us as a family and as individuals.

We build deep and loving family relationships by doing simple things together, like family dinner and family home evening and by just having fun together.

When I was growing up, my mom & dad were great examples of sharing their time & love with us. With 6 kids running around, it was crazy! But, every Monday night, we’d gather together to share a family night with an inspiring thought, fun activity & delicious treats. As I grew to be a teen, I’d sometimes roll my eyes at the thought of ‘hanging out’ with my family. But, my dad would joke with me & lovingly encourage me to ‘interact’ with the family. When he said ‘interact’ that meant, “Just come and have fun with us.” I’d begrudgingly shuffle over to the family gathering place, we’d have our inspirational thought & then the activity- which would be something like ping-pong, taking a walk, or playing games. By that point I’d usually loosen up a little & by the time we had the treats, I was having fun with my family. My mom & dad knew that if I’d just ‘interact’, I’d have fun. And you know what? I did. I have such great memories with my family; laughing, chatting, sharing, & ‘interacting’. But, most importantly, I have a love for my family that is so strong. I cherish our family relationships. They bring me happiness, love, laughter, security & peace. I know they are always there for me & I feel their support. Now we are all grown with our own families, & we still love to ‘interact’ with each other. I love my parents for their diligence in making it a point to spend that time with us and showing their love by having fun together. We have a strong bond as a family and the deep and loving relationships we’ve developed over the years is due to the ‘little things’ we did together. I love my family!

Taking time for each other is the key for harmony at home.

I remember when my kids were little, we would literally just play dress-up, dance, sing, read stories & play all day long. It seemed like it was easier to give them my time because they were so small. They relied on me for everything; getting them dressed, making their meals, changing diapers, holding them, etc. But, as they are getting older & more independent, I’m not with them all the time & with our busy schedules, it’s easy to get distracted if I let myself. It takes each one of us to pitch in & work hard on taking time for each other & having harmony in our home. And we ALL need to feel: family first. It’s the simple things that really bring a great feeling into our home of love, support Family First& peace. One thing I’ve found that strengthens our family & brings harmony in our home is taking time to gather together daily for a family prayer. I love bonding as a family as we pray to God and thank Him for one another. Counting our blessings and having a grateful heart makes our whole family happier. I can feel the harmony in our home! We also pray to ask Him to protect, strengthen & comfort us throughout the day. It’s a time when we can share the love we have for each other & God. I believe as we call on God’s power to bless us, we really do feel that protection, strength & comfort. There have been times during the day when my teens are at school, where I get the feeling one of them needs special help. But, I can’t run to the school to get them out of class & make it all better, right? So, I kneel down & ask God to help them in whatever they need at that time. Later on as we talk about how their days have gone, I find out that they had an experience where their feelings were hurt, or they were stressed about a test, or they had real concerns or fears. They really needed a mother’s prayer. I know that little whisper in my heart was guiding me as a mom. As my children are leaving on their own one by one, I’m seeing the importance of the power of prayer in our lives as a family. I know no matter where we are, we can rely on the blessings of heart felt prayers. And I know they will be answered.

Our Father in Heaven wants us to have strong, loving families.

One of the great helps he has given us to achieve this is family prayer. Prioritizing family time, doing simple things together & taking time to pray for each other has brought happiness & light in our home. Being a close family with love & friendship is one of the most important things to me. Knowing that we can live forever together motivates me to give it my all to bring life, light & happiness into our home.
