God’s Love: Find It and Share It

By Comeuntochrist.org

What Does God's Love Feel Like?

Have you ever met someone who had a strong conviction that God exists and who persistently tried to share their feelings with you? God’s love changes people, and once you experience it, it can be hard to keep it to yourself. God’s love is warm, inviting, and perfect, and it’s definitely meant for sharing.

The Void

Life often presents us with challenging emotions to work through—sadness, emptiness, pain, loss, disappointment, loneliness, and regret, to name a few—and we can be counted on to do nearly anything to avoid these feelings. We all want to be happy, and we may wonder why God allows us to experience hardship and negative emotions.

Being separated from God is one cause of the poignant emptiness felt in the human race. When we don’t understand this void, some of us run from it and try not to feel anything at all, some mistakenly fill the void with poor substitutes, and more and more of us are numbing our emptiness with addictions. All human beings crave the love of God and the peace, comfort, and wholeness that accompany His presence. We’ve just lost touch with how to find it.

As we begin to understand that there’s purpose in all of the good and bad things that happen to us, we realize that our sadness and difficulties help us turn to Him. He beckons to us through our challenges and sorrows. He calls, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).

Fill the void with God’s love. Begin with prayer. God, our Father is always available to us, and His love is constant. He has said, “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me” (Revelation 3:20). God is eager to fill the void in our hearts with His love, but it’s up to us to let Him in.

Finding God's Love

The shortest distance between us and God is gratitude. By expressing heartfelt gratitude to God for all of the goodness in our lives (even if it seems small), we’ll feel Him draw closer to us. The Lord has also said, “Draw near unto me and I will draw near unto you; seek me diligently and ye shall find me; ask, and ye shall receive; knock, and it shall be opened unto you” (D&C 88:63). He has promised he’s there, but we have to do the knocking.

Sharing God's Love

The best way to share God’s love is to remind others of their value. “Remember the worth of souls is great in the sight of God” (D&C 18:10). After experiencing God’s love for ourselves, we can expand that love by sharing it. Helping someone else realize they’re a child of God, that they’re loved, and that they matter is the most valuable gift we can give one another—and the most lasting. Life is rich and full when we’re feeling and sharing the best gift—God’s love.
