Why Did Jesus Die For Me?

Have you ever asked any of these questions?

Why did Jesus die for me?

Why did Jesus choose to suffer?

Did Jesus have to die? Wasn’t there another way to redeem humankind?

God sent His Beloved Son to earth to be our Lord and Savior, and Jesus willingly volunteered. He knew His own suffering was necessary and that only a perfect being could satisfy justice for all the wrongdoing in the world.

Jesus died for you because He loves you. He died because it is part of God’s plan. He died so all people who repent and obey His commandments and ordinances can have eternal life.

Jesus Made It Possible for All People to Be Cleansed from Sin

God’s plan allows His children to learn and grow during mortality. He allows us to choose our own actions, and God knows we will sin. That prevents us from returning to His presence in heaven, because “no unclean thing can inherit the kingdom of God” (Alma 40:26).

If you are to live with God again, your sins have to be removed. This is only possible through Jesus. Because He was born of God and of Mary, Jesus was both divine and human. He was able to live a perfect life. He chose to take responsibility for the sins of all people—in exchange for faith, sincere repentance, and obedience to God’s commandments.

God gave Jesus the power of redemption, and through His suffering (see Ephesians 1:7), Jesus was able to pay the debt of sin so every person who repents can be forgiven and cleansed.

Jesus Set up the Way for All of Us to Regain Our Bodies

In addition to suffering spiritually for all sins, Jesus died physically. Because He is divine, death could have been avoided. But Jesus chose to die so that He could be resurrected—His spirit and His body could be reunited after death.

The Resurrection of Jesus Christ makes it possible for all people to live again—in both body and spirit. In time, all people will be resurrected. Because of Jesus giving His life, you will again see people who have died before you and families can be reunited.

Jesus's Death and Resurrection Makes It Possible for All to Live Again.

One of Jesus’s purposes for coming to earth was to offer eternal life to everyone who believes and follows Him. “But learn that he who doeth the works of righteousness shall receive his reward, even peace in this world, and eternal life in the world to come” (D&C 59:23).

Jesus’s loving sacrifice makes the plan of salvation and your eternal reward possible.
