Why Trust in God?

God watches over you and over all His children. He is aware of you as an individual. Trusting in Him helps you to increase your faith. As you overcome adversity and draw closer to Him, you’ll find blessings that give great comfort.

Life isn’t always easy. In fact, you might feel sometimes that life is so challenging that there’s nowhere to turn or no one to turn to for comfort. But God is there to help lift your burdens or make you better to bear your burdens. If you can learn to trust Him, you can more fully live life and feel His help through the highs and lows of mortality.

Will God really help?

Faith is a hard concept for most people, whether they are religious or not. Faith requires you to put your trust in something you can’t see. The beauty of faith, though, is that it reaps rewards for those who exercise it. A passage from the Book of Mormon illustrates this: “Whosoever shall put their trust in God shall be supported in their trials, and their troubles” (Alma 36:3).

God promises that if you will just trust Him, he will help you. This help will come to you according to His wisdom and timing. As recorded in the New Testament, Jesus said, “With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible” (Mark 10:27).

While all things are possible with God, it is important to remember that His help may sometimes require you to do difficult things. Part of life is going through difficult times so that you can improve. With a firm trust in God, you can get through difficult times by knowing that He has a plan for you.

Why does God help?

God is the all-powerful, all-knowing Creator of the universe. Why would He bother helping just one person? The answer is simple: God is literally your father. As the Apostle Paul taught, “We are the offspring of God” (Acts 17:29). God wants you to be happy, to be successful, to live a meaningful life. He hears your prayers, and He wants to help.

God never gives you a trial that you can’t ultimately handle. With His help and influence in your life, you can handle whatever comes your way. When you trust Him, you can get through unimaginably difficult circumstances.

How do you get God’s help?

God is always willing to help, but in return, you have to be willing to do what He asks. Part of that involves living the commandments, being patient while you wait for His help, and above all, having faith that your trust in God will bless your life.

You also need to simply ask Him. As Proverbs 15:29 reads, “The Lord … heareth the prayer of the righteous.”

Directly asking God for help demonstrates your trust. Prayer nurtures the seeds of faith. God will reward that trust and faith with the blessings you need to handle the difficult trials that are part of life.
